CERN, a supranational organization similar to the UN, has 20 member counties including Hungary, and draws on the research work of about ten thousands scientists. To meet the extreme energy requirements (the annual energy consumption of CERN is about 1 TWh), the plant has a dedicated 400 kV substation and transformer capacity of about 200 MW to feed the 66 kV main distribution system.
MVM OVIT, the Hungarian company with the most extensive experience in implementing power grids, bid with Protecta’s EuroProt+ product line and won the assignment for the secondary reconstruction of the 66 kV distribution network. In addition to the main substation with ten bays and a double busbar, the assignment covers seven radial substations supplying 66/18 kV transformers.
Protecta delivers the devices for the protection and control system and performs the development, production and configuration work necessary for the commissioning of the entire system. The fact that the protection and control system is based on devices developed in Hungary adds to the value of the project.
The successful implementation of this project will be an important international reference for Protecta Ltd. in its expansion in international markets.
