Introduction of a multi-purpose current transformer module

In 2022, Protecta Ltd. successfully expanded its modules range with the CT+5115 multifunctional current transformer. The card can simultaneously serve the protection and measurement functions of the IED, which results in more efficiency in terms of space and connector usage.

Using an innovative algorithm, it produces an eight-time higher resolution signal stream from the raw data, which enables much more accurate measurements in the small amplitude ranges.

In addition to the analogue to digital conversion, the module also performs a numerical filtering function, reducing the noise content of the measured signals and the data traffic of the internal bus.

Based on the successful operation experience of the last year, the newly introduced current transformer module provides the same behaviour as the conventional current transformer modules used for protection purposes with increased measurement accuracy.

The application of such module is strongly recommended for feeder bays with a large primary current transformer ratio, where accurate measurement of relatively small normal load currents (even in the order of a few tenths of a percent) is essential.
