According to the detailed feasibility study prepared in 2000, the operation of the facility can be extended by another 20 years because the condition of the power plant facilitates safe operation as a result of operating and maintenance procedures, the robust design of structures and system elements and the numerous renovations and security-enhancing measures. Preparation for service life extension has been started in more than one areas. The modernisation of the protection of medium-voltage power supply distributors used both for normal operation and as backup is of particular importance for Protecta. MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant Zrt. commissioned Konkoly és Kis Kft. to prepare a preliminary impact assessment to evaluate the professional and technical capabilities of potential suppliers. Based on this study, MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant Zrt. engaged MVM OVIT Zrt. as the main contractor of the entire project, which issued an invitation to tender for the supply of the protection and control system.
The multi-round tendering process started at the end of 2012. After the evaluation of the technical and commercial bids with the involvement of Paks and MVM ERBE experts, Protecta Ltd. was awarded the contract for the supply of the protection and control system.
